Website Key Words

Unlocking The Mystery Of Website Key Words

Understanding website key words, knowing the best key words and the most searched key words is the basis of success of your website. Your goal as a website owner is to be on the first page or two when a potential customer is searching for information that is relevant to your website.

At Business Marketing Tactics, our goal is for you to have a complete understanding of key words and their importance to the viability of the long term success of your website.

Key words properly blended with content is the best way to draw sustained free traffic to a website. Before any content is written, a very detailed website key words search needs to be performed. Missing this most important step and setting up a website with no keywords or not using the best key words will mean little or no traffic to your website.

The goal of any website is to attract visitors. Finding the most searched keywords for Supply (potential customers) and Demand (competitors) is the goal for any website key word research. Weeding out the poor key words can be a time intensive process but is the most critical step in setting up a successful website.

Most Searched Key Words

Most businesses hire out the creation of a website. A business owner hiring out web creation needs to understand the tools and the key words selection process for the website being created. A business owner that has no input to the key words used on their site may has misspent valuable money for a useless piece of e-dust.

A Google key words search by a potential customer may yield tens of thousands of search results. It is the business owner’s job to know the most searched key words and the best key words to use so as to attract as many potential customers to the website.

PROPERLY RESEARCHED KEY WORDS = WEBSITE TRAFFIC

It must be stated here that choosing the most searched key words may not be the traffic driver you think it may be. You have to carefully balance the demand for your relevant key words versus the supply of those key words.

Website Key Words Research Example – Passive Income

In the example below, you see a topic or “seed word” search for Passive Income. The results have been color coded to illustrate what you need to look for in a key words research. All of the key words for the topic passive income are not represented since more than 400 related keywords were returned from the search.

In the above graph, you see 4 headings in the blue row. Seed Word, Demand, Supply and Profitability. Under the Seed Words are the key words that came back from the research input. The Demand column shows how many times the returned key word was searched on the net in the last 90 days. The Supply column shows you how many different web pages use those website key words, those are your competitors for those key words.

The Profitability column is NOT how much you can make with that Key Word. The Profitability column is simply the function of Demand divided by Supply multiplied by 1000 (D/S x 1000). Profitability is a quick and easy way to discard poor website key words and to further research best key words.

At Business Marketing Tactics, our criteria to look at potential website key words is Demand greater than 100 and Profitability greater than 3000. Let us look at more detail from the example from above!

The above 3 examples should help you determine useable versus unusable key words. Your web designer should go over the key words used on your site especially if you are wanting a website that drives traffic.

If your web designer does not go over the usage of key words for your website, YOU NEED TO ASK! If they do not research key words like in our example....RUN and find another designer! Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Website Key Words Summary

As you can see finding the best key words takes some work. And to make things a bit more complicated, you need to have 4 different key words per web page and they all need to be different key words. This means that a properly researched content based website with 35 pages of content will require about 125 to 140 different properly researched website key words on the site.

Think of having 4 different key words on 30 different pages in this way. You have 120 (4 x 30) key words on your content based website. That means if you have properly researched key words on your website and someone is looking for information on your topic, you have 120 potential entry points for the qualified lead looking for your information. THAT’S POWER!

It needs to be clear that different web pages will need to have different key words in the meta tags section of the web page when creating the website. It would be a serious mistake to spend your time properly researching key words and finding the best website key words and then to improperly locate the key words in the meta tags.

What are meta tags? We teach you that too! Every web page developed will have an area for a key words meta tag. This is where you input the key words specific to that page. If you list a key word on a specific pages meta tag, that key word must be present in the content of that web page. This is a point many web designers miss!

If you put a key word in a meta tag and that key word is not in the content of the web page, you will not rank well with the search engines. Additionally, if you do not have any website key words in the meta tags, you will not rank well with the search engines. Great researched key words in the content of a website properly placed in the meta tags equals free organic targeted traffic.
